Today, Kenyan-born, London-based Somali poet Warsan Shire tweeted, “My father has the greatest laugh in the world” and I retweeted her.
Then it dawned on me that I had forgotten how my father’s voice sounded like. Even more, how his laugh sounded like. We never had any recording of his voice, or even a video of his. Even if we have one, I am not sure if I want to watch it knowing for sure how much of an emotional wreck I could be when one mentions of him.
It is enough for me to know that he has the greatest laugh in the world.
